Weekly DVD Party

Throwing a weekly DVD party is similar to belonging to a book club. However, instead of taking a specified amount of time to read a book and then getting together to discuss it, a DVD party is a different. You get together with your group of friends on a weekly basis to watch a DVD and play film critic.

One fun part of a DVD party is the preparation. There are a number of online sources with appropriate decorations for your DVD parties including invitations, table runners, cups and plates, centerpieces, and signs or banners all with a movie theme. The host for the week can serve popcorn, candy, and soda, just like at the movies or opt for more healthy refreshments. You can also make it pot luck, with everyone contributing.

You can also have fun deciding on which DVD to watch. One week you might want to watch the latest release, and another week you may want to review an old classic. You can rent a DVD or show one that you already own. A good feature of DVD’s is that they can be paused during the showing of the film, for bathroom breaks or an intermission. You can have an interim discussion while people use the bathroom if they need it. That way, no one misses part of the film.

Always watch the complete credit crawl, because many directors throw in a scene at the very end of the credits. These last scenes can be insightful or humorous, but they are worth the wait. After the screening, everyone can critique the film including the acting, writing, directing, costumes, and cinematography.
