There are a few ways in which to connect a High Definition DVD Player to your converter box to yield the best performance. Today, most High Definition DVD players are referred to as Blu-Ray, which has emerged as the best process.
Today, HDMI (high definition media interface) is the best method of connecting. This is a single cable that will best transmit the digital video and audio signals. Not all TV sets can accommodate HDMI, so you may have to resort to older, less effective methods. You may use digital fiber optic or digital coax, which will function but not deliver maximum performance. It is important to note what types of connections are available on your TV before you select the DVD player and the connection method. The same is true of the digital converter box. You need to check closely how many HDMI connections can be made on all your equipment before you invest in cables of any kind.
In some cases, you may elect to use “S” video connection which has been a standard method of connecting a variety of additional boxes to your digital receiver. This may be the only option depending on the TV you own. Older TVs do not accommodate HDMI. Again, this will be less effective than HDMI. In the end, if you want to maximize your viewing and listening pleasure, an HDMI cable connection is the best choice. With most DVDs now being created in the latest 1080p format, it's important to make sure that your equipment keeps up.
