When starting a DVD collection, there are some DVDs that Amazon says you must have. The top three DVDs on the list are Seven Samurai (Criterion Collection Spine #2), The Godfather DVD Collection, which includes all three Godfather movies, and Citizen Kane. Some of these movies may not be your type. You can make a collection of only your favorites, or just DVDs in general. The best way to start your collection is to research what you want and like. If you watch a movie on television and like it, write it down. Keep a notepad available for movies that you watch, read or hear about.
You want a variety of movies in your collection. Some romance, scary, adventure, comedy and dramas will be perfect. You do not have to go out and buy all the different kinds at the same time. If two or three of your favorite movies are all drama, then start off with them. Remember, this is your collection and it will be a good start. You want to keep a budget also, decide on how much you will allow yourself for your collection before you just go out and buy up a large quantity of DVDs.
Going to garage sales, and shopping on auction sites can help your collection grow faster. There are also stores where you can buy used or previewed DVDs, but you have to decide if that is something that matters to you or not.
When buying all these DVDs, you may end up with no room for them. Make sure you add money to your budget for storage space.
